Thanksgiving Travel
Thanksgiving travel is something that can be either very enjoyable and
relaxing or a complete nightmare. A lot of it depends on the distance that is being traveled and the method of
travel being utilized. Many people who have a destination that is a very long way from where they live tend to make
the choice between traveling there for Thanksgiving or Christmas, but not both. The expense involved is another
thing that must be taken into consideration when trying to make the decision of traveling or not for this
particular holiday. Some people save up all year to make the trip.
Traveling by plane has become somewhat of a nightmare over the last eight years and people who engage in
Thanksgiving travel by air find this out rather quickly. While it is definitely the fastest way to go, it can also
be the most annoying and tiring way to travel. If you want an early flight out, keep in mind that you will need to
be at the airport about two hours ahead of time. Therefore, if you have a flight, for example, that is scheduled to
depart at 6:00 AM, you are going to need to arrive at the airport by around 4:00 AM to get yourself checked in and
go through all of the security measures that are now in place.
Thanksgiving travel by car can be a real adventure especially when you are traveling with children. Parents may
want to keep that in mind before planning a long road trip with very young children. You will also need to be sure
that you will have enough time off from jobs or school to make it worth your while. Driving two thousand miles
really makes no sense if you only have four days to get there and back. You may be able to get there in time for
Thanksgiving dinner and a nap before you have to hit the road again. So consider your time frame.
Another method of transportation for Thanksgiving travel is the train. While not quite as fast as a plane, it is
still faster and more comfortable than a car. Many people choose traveling by train when they want to spend time
with their families who live a good distance away. However, even traveling by train, it is still better to plan for
a few extra days if you want to spend some actual quality time with your family.
